About Us

Manav Kalyan Sewa Samiti Established under Society registration Act, 1860 in the month of November 1997. Society is working for the development of handicraft and handloom sector artisans/ weavers last two or more decades. Allahabad Terracota is an age old craft of the Allahabad region and it is largely spread over the villages of  Pandilla, Dih, Jaswardih, Nani, Sikandra, Phaphamau, Phoolpur, Soraon etc. The art could not spread forward since it required clay of specific type which was found in the yomuna / ganga river present in these areas. Initially society has given proposal to O/o development commissioner Handicraft  for  the upliftment of Terracotta  artisans working  in the Area of Padilla,  jaitwardih  & Dighi phaphamau of district Prayagraj. During baseline survey in these area it has been observed that over 220 hundred prajapati  families 650 were working in Terracota craft. While interaction with the artisans we are came to know that 10 years back here over 850 families and over 1500 artisans were working in Terracota craft, but gradually due to lack of support from the government/ministry they are unable to continue their traditional business and sift their interest towards other businesses.  O/o development commissioner handicraft has addressed this issue based on the proposal submitted by the organization and considers this project proposal under AHVY (Adopted Cluster).  With the help of department Area office Prayagraj we have disseminate the information of the schemes of O/o development commissioner handicraft to the artisans and prepared over 300 artisan cards in targeted area. Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh is very rich in alluvial soil deposits due to abundant availability of Yamuna river water. The rich plasticity in clay is very much suitable for turning the clay pots as well as moulding the clay idols. The clay is processed, preserved for few days and then used for making the pottery.  Khurja, Chinhat are the other famous places in Uttar Pradesh well known for Pottery work. The artisans in Allahabad belong to Prajapathi community engaged in practicing terracotta craft from past 50 years and continuing the tradition. Men are engaged in procuring raw material and clay-turning process. Clay modeling and ornamentation work is done by women in the household. With the financial assistance of O/o development commissioner handicraft we are able to introduce various program like Design development program, CAP, Seminar, Exhibition, Improve tool kit distribution and EDP program in targeted area and covered over 270 artisans under these program. Artisans were enthusiastic during activities and say that, this is first time when any department or ministry were taken initiative for the welfare of terracotta craft.  After intervention from O/o development commissioner handicraft they have learn new technology of production process and develop marketing skill. They are now producing good and fine products of Terracota like decorative items, pots, Animal figer, statues, wall hanging artifacts etc.

                                    Our Mission

PP handicraft is known for their wide range of clay crafts. Our main concern/aim is to provide modern techniques of earthenware to the potters.

If the clay products(diyas, handi, pots, kulhar and many more) are made with the modern technique instead of traditional, production will be more and the workers will be able to earn well.

We take this initiative for the welfare of potters who are working whole day and they do not get enough for their subsistence/living.
